As usual I have reread the rules to see what I had overlooked in our first game of Kemet:
(1) At the beginning of the game, all players start with some pyramids already in their city. The player can choose to have all three pyramids at level 1 OR two pyramids (of the colour of his choice) one of which is at level 2 and the other at level 1. Moreover, two of the pyramids (of the player's choice if he has three of them) already have 5 units recruited to each of them. That way, the action starts much more quickly.
(2) When you have a pyramid reaching level 4, you get a temporary VP for it. The VP is temporary because if somebody conquers your pyramid, you have to give him the VP. Such pyramid conquests, by the way, provide an incentive for movement over land (the only way to reach somebody else's pyramid).
(3) If you win a battle, you do NOT get a VP if all your units are destroyed by the defender's damage. Moreover, in such as case the defender does not have to retreat or recall his troops. In other words, to enjoy the benefits of a won battle, you have to have at least one unit surviving. A lone creature does not count, because a creature is automatically sent back to the player's city (if there are units already there) or his reserve when its troop is destroyed.
