Mike, Pascal, Kevin: I found the answer to the question of ties. During the scoring at the end of each phase, the scores are added up one player after the other, beginning with the starting player. If the final score of a player ends up the same as the score of a previous player, he keeps going one more space on the score track. So there cannot be ties.
Interesting, so Pascal should have started in this case. Other ties during
scoring should also have not happened, so maybe we could have had another
winner. :)
